Coromega
tastes great refrigerated too!
Coromega is a great tasting, orange flavored, omega-3
fatty acids supplement.
Coromega uses an exclusive production process that transforms
the highest quality pharmaceutical grade fish oil into
a creamy, delicious orange tasting pudding-like emulsion.
Coromega has made the experience of taking a fish oil supplement
a pure pleasure. The Coromega process and formulation,
developed in Norway, was developed over a 10-year period
and is patented worldwide. This complex process assures
the stability of the fish oil and the potency of these
high quality omega-3 fatty acids.
Coromega is a natural source of Omega-3 fatty acids from
pharmaceutical grade fish oil. All contaminants have been
removed through a series of sophisticated cleaning processes,
including molecular distillation, to provide a pure and
concentrated source of omega-3 fatty acids. Coromega is
a patented emulsified form of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA
and DHA, protected and stabilized with vitamins C and E
(natural d-alpha tocopherol). The omega-3 fatty acids in
Coromega have been shown in clinical trials to reduce heart
disease, reduce triglyceride levels and reduce inflammation.
For more information, please see our Benefits
of Omega-3 Fatty Acids webpage. Coromega only uses the highest quality
pharmaceutical grade fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids) on
the market.

How Coromega Dietary Supplements Function:
The omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, found in Coromega
are very important for normal brain development, nervous
system function, and eyesight. These fatty acids are thought
to be protective of the body, reducing the risk of developing
arthritis, high blood pressure, some cancers, and heart
disease. Most omega-3 fatty acid studies have focused on
the association these fats have with heart health. According
to the American Dietetic Association, omega-3 fatty acids "are
believed to contribute to an overall vascular environment
less prone to occlusion by atherosclerotic plaques".
There has been a strong relationship between omega-3 fatty
acids and cardiovascular health in many observational studies.
Researchers have conducted numerous well-designed interventional
clinical trials that have shown decreased mortality from
cardiovascular disease, particularly myocardial infarction
in the past twenty years.
In the GISSI-3 {Gruppo Italiano per lo Studio della Sopravvivenza
nell’infarto Miocardio (GISSI)-Prevenzione}, 11,324
people were given 1 gram of omega-3 fatty acids or control
for 24 months. This study demonstrated that individuals
given omega-3 fatty acid supplements had a 45% decrease
in risk of sudden cardiac death and a 20% decrease in all-cause
mortality.
The benefits of omega-3 fatty acids for cardiovascular
health are so well established that the American Heart
Association has published statements since 1996 advocating
increased fish intake and/or omega-3 fatty acids from fish
oil supplements.
Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic
and may positively modulate the immune system. Clinical
trials, while not decisive at this time, substantiate the
use of omega-3 fatty acids in neurological diseases such
as Alzheimer’s, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Research is continuing on the relationship between omega-3
fatty acids and disease states including asthma and other
diseases of the immune system.
Bioavailability Studies of Emulsified Flavored Fish Oil
(Coromega)
Bibus, D.M., Schumacher, K., and Holman, R.T.
The University of Minnesota, The Hormel Institute,

As scientific research continues to reveal the nutritional
and therapeutic benefits of supplemental omega-3 fatty
acids, demand for fish oil supplements and related omega-3
products will grow. Enhanced demand will create a need
to provide fish oil in more desirable and more effective
delivery systems that are more amenable to consumer needs,
taste, and convenience.
Emulsified flavored fish oil products, like Coromega,
have emerged as a way of providing omega-3 fatty acids
from fish oil in a form that not only tastes good but also
in a form that is already emulsified. Recent work from
our laboratory has examined the bioavailability of an emulsified
flavored fish oil product (Coromega) vs. traditional encapsulated
fish oil in a short-term feeding trial in men. Subjects
were randomly assigned to receive either of the products
following an overnight fast. Plasma samples were taken
from venous blood draws at baseline, 2, 4, 8, 24, and 48
h following the ingestion of the equivalent of 4g of fish
oil from either product. One week after the beginning of
the study, the study protocol was repeated with the opposite
oil. Subjects fasted during the first 8h of study and were
advised to eat low-fat meals for the rest of the study.
Fatty acid profiles were then determined for plasma total
phospholipids for each time point with baseline values
serving as control. Percentage differences in specific
fatty acids in individuals were then compared to baseline
and the alternative treatment to assess bioavailability.
This study suggested that emulsified fish oil, like Coromega,
is more bioavailable. Levels of eicosapentaenoic acids
(EPA) and docosahexaenoic acids (DHA) not only increased
faster in subjects taking emulsified fish oil but also
increased to a greater extent throughout the 2-d study
period.
Coromega will revolutionize the way people take fish oil
and may be an efficient tool to guarantee greater study
compliance in study subjects adverse to fish oil capsules.
*The Food and Drug Administration approved the following
statement regarding omega-3 fatty acids: The scientific
evidence about whether omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the
risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) is suggestive, but
not conclusive. Studies in the general population have
looked at diets containing fish and it is not known whether
diets or omega-3 fatty acids in fish may have a possible
effect on a reduced risk of CHD. It is not known what effect
omega-3 fatty acids may or may not have on risk of CHD
in the general population. Other claims regarding omega-3
fatty acids (fatty acids from fish oil) have not been approved
by the Food and Drug Administration. This omega-3 fatty
acid/antioxidant dietary supplement is not intended to
diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
